Beet Chioggia Italian - Mr. Fothergill's Seeds

Beta vulgaris

  • A unique Italian heirloom variety

  • Excellent Yielding
  • Sweet mild peppery flavour, great in salads.

A striking Italian beetroot with concentric rings of rose-red and white when sliced. Has a very good sweet-tasting flavour. Lift young as 'baby beets' or leave to mature. Excellent source of folate and good source of potassium. A Multigerm variety.

Approx. 300 seeds

Sow in early spring, as soon as you can work the soil, into warm, well drained soil, 13mm (1/2") deep, 2.5cm (1") apart. Germination: 10-14 days. When plants are 5-7.5cm (2-3") tall, thin to 10-15cm (4-6") apart. Beet greens are ready to harvest in approx. 35 days. Water thoroughly, once a week. May require feeding every 3 weeks.

Cook whole to retain the rings and slice just before serving.
