Tomato Manitoba - Ontario Seed Company
Solanum lycopersicum
The Manitoba Tomato is a reliable variety specifically Canadian bred for our shorter growing seasons. Maturing in just 65 days, it delivers an early and substantial harvest of bright red, smooth-skinned tomatoes, averaging 150 g in size. The firm, meaty flesh makes these tomatoes exceptionally versatile—they are ideal for canning, sauces, or slicing fresh into salads. A dependable, productive determinate variety perfect for northern gardens.
What you need to know to Plant & Grow
As a determinate variety, the Manitoba Tomato grows into a compact, bushy plant that sets the majority of its crop at one time.
Sow Indoors: Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last expected frost date. Plant in sterile, high-quality seed-starting mix.
Germination: Seed typically germinates in 7 to 14 days.
Transplanting: Move seedlings outdoors to a location with Full Sun and rich, well-drained soil only after all danger of frost has passed and night temperatures are warm.
Sow Outdoors: In longer season climates, sow directly outdoors late May and early June.
Planting Depth: 6 mm
Seed Spacing: 30 cm
Thin to: 45 cm
Row Width: 60 cm
Plants benefit from caging or short staking to keep the heavy fruit off the ground. Keep the soil consistently moist for best production. Expected Height: 60 cm to 90 cm.
