This ancient succulent perennial is a member of the Stonecrop family, native to Eastern Europe. The grey/blue leaves emerge in early spring as a small cluster. Mature leaves have indentations.The flowering stems are 5-8 inches tall and produce umbel style beautiful long lasting ruddy red blossoms by early summer. An excellent selection for the rock garden, loves full sun and is very drought tolerant. Loved by all beneficial insects and butterflies.
This has been used traditionally as a very important skin remedy and to treat warts. The seeds are tiny. Start in flats, surface sow, provide warmth, more to the dry side and be patient, a very slow germinator. Provide a well drained with a light soil location. As other stonecrops, the leaves can be nestled into potting mix on their edge and new plants will start.
