Broccoli Waltham 29 - Pacific Northwest Seeds
Brassica oleracea var. italica
80 days
This cool-weather relative of cabbage is easy to grow, producing a large head. The vitamin-rich head is actually a cluster of tiny flower buds. After the head is harvested, it “sprouts” numerous small heads. Sow in early spring or fall, or plant transplants. Delicious fresh, frozen, raw or steamed.
- known for its large, blue-green heads that are packed with nutrients and flavor.
- cold-hardy plant that can be grown in a variety of climates and soil types.
- mild, sweet flavor and a firm texture, making it perfect for stir-fries, salads, and other dishes where you want to add some texture.
- produces a head 4-8" diameter, which holds for a long time. Also produces lateral buds for 6 to 8 weeks after harvest of the main head.
- grow to a height of about 20 inches and form blue-green, medium to large heads on long stalks, a rarity amongst modern hybrids.
