Orach Red Fire International - Aimers Seeds

Atriplex hortensis

Variety originated in Egypt

Red Fire Orach is an absolutely stunning, crimson-purple leafy green with a delicious, mild, spinach-like flavour. This beautiful Egyptian heirloom is a must-grow for both its ornamental appeal in the garden and its performance in the kitchen. Unlike spinach, orach is much slower to bolt in the summer heat, making it a reliable and long-lasting alternative for fresh greens. Plants can reach an impressive 120 cm to 180 cm in height, providing an abundant harvest.

What you need to know to Plant & Grow:

Direct sow seeds in a sunny location every two weeks, starting in late-spring and continuing through to mid-summer for a continual harvest. Seed typically germinates in 10 to 14 days.

  • Planting Depth: 6 mm
  • Seed Spacing: 5 cm
  • Thin to: 20 cm
  • Row Width: 60 cm

Keep the soil evenly moist. Begin harvesting young leaves once the plants reach 20 cm in height. To encourage bushier growth and prolong your harvest, pinch off any flower buds that appear. Matures in approximately 45 days.

Approx. 300 seeds/pkt
