Mirabilis jalapa

Four O'Clock Mix produces fragrant 5 cm (2) trumpet-shaped flowers that open in the late afternoon. Blooms in great varieties of red, yellow, crimson, white, and pink. Many flowers are mottled, striped, veined or speckled in contrasting colors. Hummingbirds love these flowers. They are also tolerant of poor soil and heat.

After danger of frost, sow seeds in open ground well exposed. Cover with 1/4 inch of soil. When plants are 4 inches high, thin.

Large, bushy plants with neat, smooth leaves are excellent to use as low hedges or as temporary shrubs. Resists city smoke and grime. Especially nice for evening fragrance.
