Reaching 2–4 ft tall and about 1–2 ft wide, it rises above fine-textured basal foliage (6–12″ long narrow green leaves). A native prairie away from the marsh edge, it thrives in full sun and well‑drained to moderately moist soils, and tolerates heat, humidity, drought, and clay conditions better than most other Liatris species.
