Gentiana Tibetica

This rare cultivar forms large soft green, tongue shaped leaves at ground level. The yellow flower spike grows taller, to 1 foot, and doesn’t bloom in the first year, but well worth the wait. Very cold hardy and typically recommended for shade, our bed is located in full sun, with mulch cover to conserve moisture. The leaves are used medicinally as a digestive aid. This variety is easier to grow from seed ,than most others in this family.  Start in early spring, indoors, plant tiny seed on the soil surface, light is required for germination. Keep evenly moist and be patient, germination can take weeks.
