Solanum Lycopersicum

This local family heirloom originated in Austria, coming to Salt Spring in the early 1900’s. Gifted to us by Mary to preserve, we have multiplied it and are delighted to be offering it here for the first time. This semi-determinate vine will grow to 5 feet long. The foliage type is called rugose, which has much thinner and sparser leaves than regular plants. The red fruit is long and narrow, similar in shape to a banana pepper. Grows well in the greenhouse or outside. Production is excellent. The best quality by far is the flavour, deep rich and full-bodied. An excellent keeper on or off the plant. Use fresh, for paste or canning. This is extremely rare, seed packet will be less than 10 seeds. Our thanks to Mary and her granddaughter Samantha, for sharing this classic, with us.
