Brassica Oleracea

This is an ancient variety, the original cone-head type from Filder Germany. Made famous as sauerkraut in the Stuttgart region. The very pointed heads have no cores, making shredding very easy. Very sweet and tender when fresh.Very high in Vitamin C which is preserved by fermentation. Mature weight is 10 pounds or more in 90 days. Can be planted very close together, so ideal for the home gardener. Cold hardy and weatherproof can plan for a later planting in Zone 8. Mulch for overwinter. Not bothered by as many pests due to it’s unique shape.

Sow in early spring in small pots 1/4 inch deep. Transplant to the garden in deep rich sweet soil with lots of compost, a ph of 6.5 is ideal.
