Daisy Pyrethrum - Eagleridge Seeds
Tanacetum coccineum
Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium
Also referred to as Tanacetum. This hardy perennial is the source of the organic pesticide pyrethrins. The flower buds are dried and ground into powder. Very useful against fleas. Liquid extracts are made into a commercially available spray. This plant thrives in dry conditions. The leaves are very ornamental, growing in a full rosette or clump form. The leaves are silvery grey with a light feathery lacy shape. In early summer many stems produce lots of small white daisy shaped blooms with yellow centers. They may sometimes self sow but not considered invasive. This is a light dependant germinator. Start in small pots or flats in cool soil by pressing lightly into the mix and not covering. Provide even moisture but never soggy. A medium slow germinator in about 3 weeks.
