Gardener's Notes: Sow seeds outdoors after last frost or when nights are evenly in the 50F (10C) range. To start early indoors, plant 6 weeks before last spring frost. Or plant at midsummer for blooms the next season. Grow in rich, well-drained soil, spacing seeds 4-6 inches apart thinning to 12 inches apart. Stake plants as necessary to protect them from wind damage. When finished blooming, remove flower spikes. Water and fertilize regularly for more flowers in fall. Hardy zones 3-7.
