An absolute masterpiece of the garden, Romanesco Cauliflower seeds produce fascinating lime green heads formed of an intricate collection of spiralled curds. Often referred to as “coral broccoli” due to its unique fractal appearance, this heirloom is preferred by chefs everywhere for its crisp texture and sweet, lightly nutty taste.
What you need to know to Plant & Grow:
Romanesco performs best in well-drained organic soil.
Planting: Start seeds indoors in a sterile growing medium 4-6 weeks before planting out, or sow directly in mid- to late May. Sow seeds 6 mm deep and 2 cm apart. Germination takes 7-14 days.
Care: Once seedlings are established, thin them to a final spacing of 60 cm with 75 cm between rows. Keep the soil evenly watered and avoid letting the plants dry out.
