Butterhead Lettuce Italian Red Perella

This rare heirloom variety begins as looseleaf and develops into an open butterhead at maturity, offering a deliciously sweet flavor at every stage. Its green leaves quickly take on bronze tones, becoming even more vibrant in cooler weather. Exceptionally cold-tolerant, this variety can extend your growing season with the use of a cloche or cold frame and can overwinter in Zone 8.

For direct sowing, plant seeds 1/4 inch deep in early spring or late summer. Alternatively, start indoors in late winter using small cells for transplanting. Its compact growth habit makes it perfect for smaller spaces. When transplanting, space plants 6 inches apart for optimal growth.
