Bean Pencil Pod Black Wax Large - Ontario Seed Company
Phaseolus vulgaris
A highly dependable and prolific producer since 1900, Pencil Pod Black Wax Yellow Bush Bean is a proven favourite. This vigorous and stocky heirloom variety yields an abundance of fleshy, light yellow pods that are tender, stringless, and delicious. An excellent, multi-use bean for both home and market gardeners alike.
What you need to know to Plant & Grow
Beans have a distinct dislike for cold, wet soils, so sow seeds only after the soil has warmed to at least 16°C.
Planting: Sow seeds 2.5 cm deep and 8 cm apart in rows spaced 45 to 70 cm apart. For a continuous harvest, make successive sowings every 10 days until mid-July.
Care: Keep the soil evenly watered, particularly when the plants are in flower and starting to produce pods. Avoid using high-nitrogen fertilizer, which can promote excessive foliage. To reduce the risk of disease, avoid disturbing the plants when leaves are damp. Germination occurs in approximately 8 days.
Approx. 80-100 seeds/pkt (4-5 seeds/gram)
