Bean Blue Lake Bush Large - Ontario Seed Company

Phaseolus vulgaris

A home and market garden staple for a reason, Blue Lake Bush Bean is cherished for its superb flavour and exceptionally meaty, stringless pods. This prolific heirloom variety produces an abundance of rounded, 15 cm long green beans that are a favourite for fresh eating, canning, and freezing.

What you need to know to Plant & Grow

Beans have a distinct dislike for cold, wet soils, so sow seeds only after the soil has warmed to at least 16°C.

Planting: Sow seeds 2.5 cm deep and 8 cm apart in rows spaced 45 to 70 cm apart. This variety produces big, bushy plants up to 45 cm wide, so be sure to give them plenty of room to grow.

Care: To ensure a continuous harvest, make successive sowings every 10 days until mid-July. Keep the plants evenly watered, particularly when they are flowering and starting to produce pods. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, which promote excessive foliage growth. When leaves are damp, avoid disturbing the plants to reduce the risk of disease. Germination occurs in approximately 7 days.

Approx. 80-100 seeds/pkt
